Data-driven procurement decisions
“The purchase of raw materials in a global company must be organised efficiently. With Metalshub, we have shifted our operations to a digital supply chain solution facilitating data-driven procurement decisions all in one place.“
Situation
Metso set out to optimise its global procurement processes and enhance sourcing efficiency as well as strategic decision-making. With its production sites in Brazil, India and China procuring a wide range of raw materials across scrap, copper and ferroalloys, the company was seeking a global, industry-tailored solution to help improve its sourcing activities.
Expanded supplier base
“Metalshub offers us already the opportunity to expand our supplier base globally with sustainable suppliers, so we get the world vendor base and also better contract options to buy.”
Solution
Metso partnered with Metalshub to implement its Procurement Solution. The cloud-based system enabled Metso to actively manage enquiries, offers, and deals, while capturing structured data throughout the procurement process. This data-driven approach facilitated the comparison of procurement activities across different plants and allowed for informed decision-making at the group level.
Reliable price indices and data
“Having access to reliable price indices, enables me to validate my purchasing decisions and their timing with my manager. The historical data is also very useful to compare if the contracts I closed in the past were keeping track of the market.”
Results
When implementing Metalshub’s Procurement Solution, Metso onboarded its existing ~150 suppliers across its sites in Brazil, India and China. Tapping into Metalshub’s pool of network, the company discovered various new suppliers and further expanded its supplier base for selected products by 25%. As of summer 2024, Metso conducts more than 40 transactions via Metalshub per month. As a result, the company was able to drive significant improvements in efficiency, competitiveness, and profitability.
