GMH Group Relies on Metalshub as New Procurement Tool for Alloys

Düsseldorf, 1st September 2021 – With the GMH Group, another leading manufacturer of steel, forged and cast products has chosen the cloud-based procurement tool of the Düsseldorf-based company Metalshub. Founded in 2016 by Dr Sebastian Kreft and Dr Frank Jackel, the company is the world’s leading digital trading platform for metals and ferroalloys. The group is thus replacing its previously used tool with an industry-specific solution and has already rolled it out to five German business units, Stahlwerk Georgsmarienhütte and Stahlwerk Bous, Schmiedewerke Gröditz and the foundries Harz Guss Zorge and Pleissner Guss.

The cloud-based platform Metalshub is used for purchasing a significant part of the alloys spend and is integrated into the ERP system via API to ensure synchronised and effective data transparency for the entire organisation. The GMH Group, which has relied on e-auctions in purchasing for many years, now wants to drive its collaboration with suppliers even further through a purchasing tool specialised in the procurement of raw materials.

“In addition to various options for performance evaluation and qualification of our suppliers, the supplier management system specially developed by Metalshub and integrated into the platform enables our suppliers to manage their contacts for the respective products more efficiently, thus making the process even easier for both sides. There can therefore no longer be any dead ends or irrelevant invitations to participate in our auctions,” says Manuel Freier-Nostheide, GMH Group product group manager.

For more than two decades, steel has been produced sustainably in electric arc furnaces at several GMH Group sites, saving many tonnes of CO2 every year. With its digital platform for efficient procurement processes, Metalshub is an important part of the digital transformation in the iron and steel industry. The digitalisation of supply chains makes better use of existing resources, speeds up processes and also reduces CO2 emissions.

The Supply Chain Act, which will be passed in 2021, also significantly increases the requirements on the iron and steel industry. Due to the increased task complexity in global supply chains, digital solutions are imperative to ensure supply chain transparency and compliance. In this regard, Metalshub is also developing a digital solution with various industry partners.
